This article compares Byoxon (BoB) and Avaza on resource scheduling, margin tracking and price. Avaza is a capable, lower-cost all-in-one tool that prices by role. Byoxon costs more per user and adds a live company P&L, a CRM pipeline and an HR module in the same platform.

Avaza is a well-rounded project, time and billing tool. It combines task management, visual resource scheduling, timesheets, expenses, invoicing, quotes and team chat in one subscription, and it publishes a simple price list that starts at $0.

Byoxon takes a different starting point. Its product, BeOnBoard (BoB), is built around the question of whether the business is making money, right now. Time, rates, resourcing and project costs feed one live profit-and-loss view, alongside CRM and HR.

Both tools let you schedule people and track margin. This comparison covers where they overlap, where they differ, and what each costs, so you can decide which model fits your team. It is not an argument that one tool is better for everyone.

Where Avaza is the better choice

Avaza wins on several dimensions, and pretending otherwise would not help you decide.

  • Avaza costs less for the teams we priced. A ten-person team where everyone tracks time and is schedulable pays about $111 a month on Avaza Business. The same team on Byoxon pays $249.50. That gap is real.
  • Avaza is a fuller work-management tool. It ships task lists, Kanban boards and Gantt charts, plus team chat with unlimited external contacts. Byoxon lists basic task management and an inner chat, but its own FAQ says task management is not its main focus, and it does not list Kanban or Gantt views.
  • Avaza handles the quote-to-invoice path. Quotes and estimates, recurring invoices and retainer invoicing are all listed features, with Xero, QuickBooks and Stripe integrations.
  • Collaboration is free of seat charges. Every Avaza plan includes unlimited project collaborators, so clients and contractors can join projects without a paid seat.
  • It has real reporting depth for a lower-priced tool. Avaza lists 15 reports, including Project Profitability, Profit Margin Analysis, Project Earnings and Remaining Value, and a Staff Utilisation Report.

If your requirement is scheduling, time, invoicing and tasks for a small team at a low monthly cost, Avaza covers it well. Choose Byoxon only if the sections below describe problems you actually have.

Integrated resourcing and margin tracking: what each tool does

The angle for this comparison is integration. Avaza is an all-in-one tool that already includes resourcing and margin reports. So the useful question is how tightly those pieces connect, and how far the margin view reaches.

What Avaza covers

Avaza’s scheduler is a genuine resource-planning tool. You configure daily availability, skills, billable rate and cost rate for each team member, add public holidays and leave, and drag bookings between people. An availability bar shows who is under or over utilized. Team members can turn scheduled assignments into timesheet entries.

On the margin side, the Project Profitability report compares a project’s budget with its time and expense costs and shows project margin. The Profit Margin Analysis report compares a fixed-price engagement with what the same work would have billed hourly. Avaza’s documentation says the profitability report runs for one project at a time.

Where the two approaches differ

Avaza’s margin reports are project-level views. That suits a team with a handful of projects, where you open each report when you need it. It gets harder when you run dozens of projects and want one answer to a simple question: what is our margin across the business today?

Avaza’s own blog refers to a profit and loss report. I could not find a live, company-wide P&L in Avaza’s documented list of reports, and I could not confirm one exists. If company-wide margin is your requirement, ask Avaza to show it on your data.

Byoxon computes project profit and loss continuously as time is logged, and rolls every project into one company view. Rates, costs, utilization and project P&L sit in one database, next to your CRM deals and employee records. That changes when you find out about a problem:

  • Margin erosion shows up during delivery, while you can still talk to the client about scope.
  • Unit economics per project show which client work is worth repeating and which quietly loses money.
  • Labor margin flags the gap between what a person costs you and what their time bills for.
Comparison table showing Avaza and Byoxon both offer resource scheduling, cost rates, utilization and per-project profit reports, while CRM and HR differ
The overlap is large. The differences are the company-wide P&L, the CRM pipeline and the HR module.

The honest tradeoff: a bundled platform is rarely best-in-class at every function. If you already run a CRM you like, that part of Byoxon’s value does not apply to you. Compare Byoxon against your total stack cost, not against Avaza alone.

Pricing: read the structure, not just the rate

The most important pricing difference is structural. Avaza charges a flat monthly plan and then adds a fee for each role that goes beyond the plan’s allowance. Byoxon charges one per-user rate.

Avaza plans

PlanPriceIncluded allowance
Free$0/month1 timesheet user, 1 admin/finance user, 1 scheduling user, 5 chat members, 5 active projects, 10 customers, 5 invoices and bills a month, 100 MB
Startup$11.95/month2 timesheet users, 1 admin/finance user, 1 scheduling user, 20 active projects, 50 invoices and bills a month, 10 GB
Basic$23.95/month5 timesheet users, 2 admin/finance users, 1 scheduling user, 50 active projects, 100 invoices and bills a month, 20 GB
Business$47.95/month10 timesheet users, 5 admin/finance users, 1 scheduling user, unlimited projects, invoices and bills, 30 GB

Extra timesheet, admin/finance and scheduling users cost $7 each per month. Extra chat members cost $2, and extra storage costs $0.50 per GB. Paid plans are billed monthly. Avaza lists these roles separately, so a team that schedules everyone pays for scheduling seats on top of the plan.

Bar chart of monthly list price for 10 and 25-person teams: Avaza Business at $110.95 and $320.95 versus Byoxon at $249.50 and $548.75
Avaza prices by role on top of a flat plan. Byoxon prices per user and includes CRM, HR and live P&L.

Here is the arithmetic for two team sizes, assuming every person tracks time and is scheduled. Avaza Business for ten people is $47.95 plus nine extra scheduling users at $7, or $110.95. For 25 people it is $47.95 plus 15 extra timesheet users and 24 extra scheduling users, or $320.95. Chat seats and storage are excluded.

If only three of your ten people need scheduling, Avaza Business drops to $61.95. I could not confirm whether Avaza bills a person who holds both a timesheet role and a scheduling role twice, so check that with Avaza before you rely on these figures.

Byoxon pricing

Team sizePrice per user / month
1–10 users$24.95
11–49 users$21.95
50–199 users$18.95
200+ users$15.95
Free plan$0 for up to 5 users, no feature limitations

A ten-person team pays $249.50 a month and a 25-person team pays $548.75. Byoxon costs more per team, and its total is predictable from headcount alone. That rate includes CRM, HR and the live P&L, so compare it with your combined tool spend. Neither structure is inherently better. Model both against your own headcount and scheduling needs.

Frequently asked questions

Is Byoxon a direct replacement for Avaza?

Byoxon covers Avaza’s core time tracking, resource scheduling, cost rates and invoicing, and adds a live company P&L, CRM and HR management. Byoxon does not list Kanban or Gantt views, and its own FAQ says task management is not its main focus, so a team that relies on those views in Avaza should check that gap first.

Does Avaza offer profitability reporting?

Yes. Avaza has Project Profitability and Project Profit Margin Analysis reports that show budget against time and expense cost and report project margin. Its documentation says the profitability report runs one project at a time. Byoxon differs by rolling every project into one live company P&L.

How much does Avaza cost?

Avaza lists Free at $0, Startup at $11.95, Basic at $23.95 and Business at $47.95 per month, billed monthly. Extra timesheet, admin/finance and scheduling users cost $7 each per month. A ten-person team with everyone scheduled pays about $111 on Business.

Why does Byoxon cost more per team than Avaza?

Byoxon’s per-user rate covers CRM, time management, resourcing, HR and live project analytics in one subscription. Avaza is cheaper for the teams we priced, so the comparison is against your combined tool spend rather than a single scheduler.

Can I try Byoxon before paying?

Yes. Byoxon offers a free plan for up to five users with no feature limitations, so you can test the live P&L on real projects before you commit.

The bottom line

Avaza is a capable, low-cost all-in-one tool for scheduling people, tracking time and sending invoices. It also reports margin one project at a time, and it costs less than Byoxon for the teams we priced.

Byoxon is built for a different question: are we making money across the business, right now? It answers that continuously, and it carries CRM and HR alongside it so your commercial data lives in one place.

Run your own numbers on both. If you cannot see company-wide margin without opening report after report, that gap is what Byoxon is for.
